There are many classic film posters from which many modern film posters have taken ideas and designs from. The classic conventions shown in posters from previous eras seem to replicate in modern films and particularly in romantic comedies.

If we look at the poster for 'Its a Wonderful Life' from 1946 we are able to see how many of the conventions have been followed in order to give the romantic element to the film and to make that identifiable to the audience. The white background against the red font is a technique which instantly alerts the audience of the romantic them and genre, which has been used in many modern day film posters such as 'The Heartbreak Kid' and 'Bounty Hunter'.

Another classic film poster is the 'Jaws' poster from 1975. The iconic image added with the catchy tagline has set the guidelines for film posters of the thriller genre and many filmmakers have replicated these conventions in modern day posters. In many modern day thriller posters we see the same conventions derived from classic posters like Jaws. Unlike in romantic comedies thriller posters often contain a iconic image from the film, rather than a posed image. Furthermore the tagline gives you a brief idea of the style and genre of the movie, however it tends to be edgy and gritty, as seen in the poster for'Taken'
