Classic Examples of Film Posters

Here are afew examples of major feature film posters that would be on display in public places eg bus stops, walls, the underground and also in magazines, newspapers and the internet.

I ROBOT - one man saw it coming
This film poster has a large image of the main star which is Will Smith in his character taking up most of the poster showing the audience the main star attracting fans and people that like Will Smiths work. The title of the film is in large and clear font to make it stand out to the audience making them remember what the film is called. The tag line 'one man saw it coming' which is underneath the title of the film gives a small hint to the audience of what the film may be about and the storyline. The background image of the robots also give a feel of the genre of the film to the audience showing its an action and a modern film attracting boys and a young audience mainly.

ELIZABETH - absolute power demands absolute loyalty
This film poster is very seductive due to the
way she is sitting, the colour red and her facial expression. This poster shows what type of film it is meaning it would tend to attract girls more than boys as there is no action and only romance. There is a large image of the star and it is clear she is not very famous as her name hasnt been stood out and only an image of her. The tag line 'absolute power demands absolute loyalty' links in with the woman as the main image hinting to the audience that its about woman and power and gives them an indication to the storyline. The way she is dressed also indicates the era the film is set in and how it is very historic and not very modern unline most films made these days attracting a very mature and intellectual audience.

BRIDGET JONE'S DIARY - uncensored. unhibited. unmarried
This film poster shows that the film is a romantic comedy as there is a woman in the middle of two men with a pen and book as if she's keeping score of their actions. All three of the people on the front are huge stars attracting more people to come and see the film as they are the main image on the poster. The tagline 'uncensored. unhibited. unmarried' uses the Rule of 3 which makes the audience remember the tagline therefore making them remember the film making them want to go and watch it. At the bottom of the poster it says 'From the makers of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill' which will encourage fans of them films to go and watch this one as it implying its the same sort of style film and that if they enjoyed these films then they will certainly enjoy this one. There is no background image on the poster showing that the characters are the most important and the main part of the film as theres no objects of things that take the lime light of the stars in action.
